FROM MESTRE TO VENICE
From our apartments, during the day (from 5:00am to 00:40am) you can take bus n° 7 or “Venezia” to get to Venice (it will take about 10/15 minutes).
There are two stops: the one in via Carducci, which iscalled “via Carducci Telecom” or the one in front of the Simply supermarket and the Jhon Reed Fitness gym.
You can also reach the city by taxi or car, parking it at Tronchetto Parking (paying a ticket). It will take about 15 minutes.
ACTV – Bus service
In order to take the bus to get to Venice you will have to buy tickets in two different ways:
– Go to a tobacconist (in the city of Mestre there are about 6/7), the closest one is in front of the stop that is in front of the Jhon Reed Fitness gym, you just have to cross the street and you will find it under the arcades
– Buy them online, at the following link: https://www.veneziaunica.it/en/content/visit-venice-0 (in the link you can also buy tickets for the churches and museums of Venice).
– We recommend buying multiple tickets at a time because it is cheaper depending on your plans, the Daily Pass is the right one for you!
– Tickets will be for both the bus on the mainland and the vaporettos in Venice.

If you want to reach the city of Venice by train you will have to go to the “Mestre Fs” train station (about 15
minutes walk from our apartments), in one stop you will arrive comfortably in the city by getting off at the “Venezia Santa Lucia” stop.

CANAL GRANDE
GrandeThe Grand Canal is the number one tourist attractionin Venice: the most famous, the most original and thefirst one you will come across. It is the wide S-shaped or snake-shaped canal thatcrosses the entire historic center of Venice, dividing itin two: it is the first thing you will see as soon as youleave the train station.
Just under 4 km long, the Grand Canal is the main communication route in Venice: just follow its banksto reach the heart of the city and find all the other unmissable attractions.
A boat ride to admire the splendid buildings overlooking the Grand Canal is a must, and to get into the spirit of the city you can take the most used means of transport by Venetians: the vaporetto.
St. Mark’s Square and Basilica
BasilicaThis elegant square overlooking the lagoon is thecity’s living room par excellence, where the most important events of the Carnival and other unmissable events take place.
The square is overlooked by the two symbolic monuments of the city: the Basilica of San Marco, amonumental church with Byzantine charm that is anunmissable visit, and the Bell Tower, the tallestbuilding in Venice. Other famous attractions overlooking the square arethe Clock Tower, the historic Caffè Florian and theCorrer Museum.
Doge’s Palace and Bridge of Sighs
Is the sumptuous seat of the Serenissima Republic. One of the greatest examples of Venetian Gothic, itholds within it an artistic heritage of inestimable value and many secrets.
The exterior is one of the most famous views of Venice: splendid facades with two levels of monumental colonnades and an upper level decorated with geometric motifs in white and pinkstone on which open ogival windows with Byzantine charm.
During the visit to the Doge’s Palace you can see from the inside the famous Bridge of Sighs, the covered bridge that once connected the Doge’s Palace and the prisons of the Serenissima. After the visit it is a must to admire it also from the outside and take the classic photo of the bridge
Rialto’s Bridge
An architectural marvel that has left everyone speechless for centuries with its grandeur and beauty.
Built at the end of the sixteenth century, it is a covered bridge 7.5 meters long.
Like Piazza San Marco, it is a nerve center of city life and sooner or later it is inevitable to pass by here. Don’t miss the fruit and vegetable market set up onthe side of the bridge on one of the two banks to seean authentic slice of Venetian life.
Gondola ride
RideIt is impossible to visit Venice and not plan abeautiful gondola ride through the city’s canals. The gondola is certainly one of the symbols of this place but also a different, and for some romantic, way to explore Venice.
The gondola was once the most used means of transport by rich Venetian families to move around the city, while now it is often the location for marriage proposals or romantic moments for couples. Although some consider it an expensive activity, a gondola tour is a way to get to know Venice from another point of view.
Accademia Galleries
A prestigious museum that exhibits the most important collection of Venetian painting in the world, with a focus on its period of maximum splendor (from the fifteenth to the eighteenth century). The 37 museum rooms are housed inside the former Church of Santa Maria della Carità and in the adjoining convent, once home to the Academy of Fine Arts. The highlights of the collection are four works considered absolute masterpieces of Western art: “The Tempest” by Giorgione, “The Pietà” by Titian, “The cycleof the stories of Saint Ursula” by Carpaccio and “The Feast in the House of Levi” by Veronese.
Great School of San Rocco
Another unmissable cultural attraction in Venice isthe Scuola Grande di San Rocco, a historic and elegant architectural complex that is home to a confraternity that still exists today.
To decorate the walls of this illustrious headquarters,a competition was announced in the 16th century in which the greatest artists of the time participated.
The winner was Tintoretto, who between 1575 and1587 created a pictorial cycle with scenes from theOld and New Testaments of extraordinary dramaticpower.
Peggy Guggenheim Collection
Peggy Guggenheim is responsible for one of the most important art museums in all of Italy, it is housed in astately building overlooking the Grand Canal.
On display you will find works by key artists of thetwentieth century including Dalì, Pollock, De Chiricoand Giacometti; temporary exhibitions are alsoorganized.
Gran Teatro La Fenice
The Gran Teatro La Fenice is the main opera house in Venice but also one of the most prestigious theaters in the world.
The theater was commissioned around 1787 by the Nobile Società dei palchettisti who decided to call it “La Fenice”, like the mythological bird capable of rising from its own ashes.
The Theater was inaugurated on May 16, 1792, on the occasion of the Feast of the Sensa, with the opera “I giuochi d’Agrigento” by Giovanni Paisiello with a libretto by Count Alessandro Pepoli with Giacomo David, Gaspare Pacchierotti and Brigida Banti.
Arsenale
A complex of shipyards, warehouses and workshops that at the time of the Serenissima represented theheart of the Venetian naval industry.
Here were built the ships thanks to which the Venetians conquered the Adriatic pushing up to the Aegean Sea and that made the fortune of the Serenissima.
To visit to dedicate time to one of the most fundamental aspects of the identity of this city: theunique bond with the sea.
